Reps Leadership: PDP Moves Against Gbajabiamila, Summons Elumelu, Ikpeazu, Others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, summoned its members who were named against the party’s wish as minority leader and deputy minority leader by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported how a rowdy session erupted on the floor of the House after Gbajabiamila ignored PDP’s nomination of Hon. Kingsley Chinda as minority leader and Hon. Chukwuka Onyema as deputy minority leader.

The Speaker had announced Ndudi Elumelu as minority leader while naming Toby Okechukwu as the deputy minority leader.

Also, against the opposition party’s nomination of Hon. Yakubu Barde as minority whip and Hon. Muraina Ajibola as deputy minority whip, Gbajabiamila announced Gideon Gwani as minority whip and Adesegun Adekoya as deputy minority whip.

The development had thrown the House into a rowdy session as some members of the largest minority party in the House kicked against the Speaker’s announcement.

The PDP, today, summoned Mr Elumelu and its other members named by Gbajabiamila to a meeting slated for Friday.

The opposition party also summoned Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Anayo Edwin, Gideon Gwadi, Toby Okechukwu and Adekoya Abdul-Majid who are said to be Elumelu’S loyalists.

Announcing the summon on Thursday, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a press statement:

“The summon is in line with the provisions of Chapter 10 (57)(3) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

“The members are to appear before the members of the National Working Committee at 10 am (on Friday),” said Ologbondiyan.
