Residents Flee As Robbers Write Osun Community, Demand N20m Appeasement

Some residents of Olofa way, Ofatedo community in Egbedore Local Government Area, Osun State have fled the area following a strange letter believed to have been written to them by a gang of armed robbers.

The robbers informed the residents of their readiness to strike in the community and kill everybody.

They said residents should contribute N20m and give to the chairman of the area to hand it over to them when they arrive to appease them so that they would not waste their lives.

It was gathered that the hand-written letters were dropped at strategic areas in the community.

A resident told our correspondent that the letters were written in Yoruba and English languages so that they would all understand their contents.

The letter written in Yoruba read,
“Kere o eyi ni lati so fun yin wipe awa ole n bo wa si gbogbo adugbo yin, kosi ile ti ako ni wo. Tabi ki e da N20 million si owe chairman yin. Ti a bati de ki egbe ( Owo naa) fun wa.”

It means “This is to inform you that we ( armed robbers) are coming to invade your community and we will visit every household. You can as well contribute N20 million and keep it with your community chairman, so that when we arrive he would hand the money over to us. “

The English part of the letter read, “We will kill any hunter that attempts to stop us.We are coming fully armed and your security guards will be killed.”

The Field Commandant of Osun Amotekun, Amitolu Shittu, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday.

He called on residents to remain calm saying Amotekun corps has beefed up security in the area.
