Rio Olympics: Dream Team Beats Sweden, Cruise Into Quarterfinals

Nigeria’s hope of winning Gold at the Rio Olympics took another step on Sunday as the Dream team defeated Sweden 1-0 to make it two wins out of two.

Sadiq Umar’s goal was the difference as Samson Siasia’s side booked a place in the quarter final of the men’s football tournament.

Umar headed home a cross from Amuzie to score the only goal of the game as the Dream team move further to relive the Nigeria Olympics men football Team of 1996 – who won Gold at Atlanta’96.

Nigeria’s top scorer Oghenekaro Etebo and Sadiq Umar came close to adding to Nigeria’s advantage but for the heroics of the Sweden goalie Andreas Linde, who ensured the West Africans did not further humiliate them.

The Dream team now has six points from two games and have qualified for the next round.
