Rio Olympics: Dream Team Wins Nigeria’s First Medal

The Nigeria U-23 side has won the bronze medal in the men’s football event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, making it the first medal the country has won in the Games.

The West Africans defeated Honduras 3-2 in the 3rd place game, played on Saturday at Mineiro, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Sadiq Umar’s brace and another from Aminu Umar gave Samson Siasia’s side a three-goal cushion.

However two late goals from Antony Lozano and Marcelo Pereira piled pressure on the West Africans but it was not enough to salvage anything for the Hondurans.

Meanwhile, host Brazil and Germany will play in the final later today to determine which country will win the gold medal at the men’s football event.
