Rivers Assembly Invites Chinese Firm For ‘Some Questions’ Over Quality Of Roads Constructed In Ogoniland

Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is to appear before the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, 13th December, following outcries concerning alleged poor execution of the dualisation of Bori–Kono road in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Michael Chinda, revealed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

He revealed that the director of civil of the ministry has been directed to come with the contractor handling the road and that of Omoku-Egbema on Monday “to answer some questions.”

He also hinted that his committee may alter the budget for the ministry to accommodate more internal roads in the state.

THE WHISTLER reported a fortnight ago the outcry from the Ogoni Youth Federation led by it’s President, General, Legborsi Yamaabana, over the alleged shabby job being done on the two roads.

While celebrating the invitation by the assembly in a statement by it’s publicity secretary, Lene Lekue Kingsley, the OYF enjoined the Ogonis to remain calm as they are committed to ensuring that the company construct the road in line with the “Bill of Quantity and Bill of Engineering Measurements and Evaluation (BEME) they signed with the Rivers State Government.”

The statement added: “To some Ogoni leaders, who are threatening the President General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana with arrest and persecution for daring to question the below average Bori-Kono road, we wish to inform them that this is not a party affair but a Pan-Ogoni affair and no amount of threat shall deter the Ogoni Youth boss from advocating for the collective development and well-being of the Ogoni nation.”
