Rivers: Eleme Local Gov’t Councillors, Chairman Reconcile After Impeachment Drama

The friction between the Eleme Legislative Assembly and the Executive led by the Local Government Chairman, Barr. Philip Okparaji, which led to the purported impeachment of the latter, has reportedly been resolved.

Both parties have also jointly issued a statement expressing their readiness to sheath their sword and work together for the interest of the Eleme people.

THE WHISTLER gathered that the latest development followed a truce brokered by some political and traditional leaders in Eleme on Tuesday, comprising Senator Olaka Nwogu, Hon. Marcus Nle-Ejii and Hon. Isaac Kamalu.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Barr. Philip Okparaji, the Leader Eleme Legislative Assembly, Hon. Nyime Ngelale, the Deputy Leader, Eleme Legislative Assembly, Hon. Nwoke Ochindo, the Chief Whip, Hon. Peter Chutte and all the Councillors of Eleme Legislative Assembly, the parties agreed to suspend all issues relating to Monday’s purported impeachment of the Eleme Council Chairman and the Vice Chairman, Grace Osaronu.

After his purported impeachment by the councillors on Monday, the chairman had issued a statement alleging that he was being intimidated because he refused to commit the LG to a loan that would make funds available to the legislators for their constituency projects.

The lawmakers had proceeded to move against him on Monday despite an earlier truce called by the LGA leadership a fortnight ago.
