Roger Federer Withdraws From Tokyo Olympics Over Knee Injury

20-time Grand Slam single’s winner Roger Federer has quit Tokyo Olympics over what he described as “setback with my knee”

The Olympics is set to begin on July 23, but the Swiss tennis legend on Tuesday announced on Twitter that he will not make it to Tokyo.

He said, “During the grass court season, I unfortunately experienced a setback with my knee, and have accepted that I must withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games,” Federer wrote, adding “I am greatly disappointed, as it has been an honor and highlight of my career each time I have represented Switzerland.

“I have already begun rehabilitation in the hopes of returning to the tour later this summer.

“I wish the entire Swiss team the best of luck and I will be rooting hard from afar.”

The 39-year-old won Silver medal men’s singles event at the 2012 London Olympics and Gold in men’s doubles at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The development will leave Novak Djokovic as the favourite for the men’s singles title in Tokyo.
