Ronaldo Buys LaLiga Club

Former Brazilian international, Ronaldo, has become majority owner of newly-promoted La Liga side Real Valladolid, after buying 51 percent of the Spanish club for a reported £27.4m.

At a press conference held at the Valladolid town hall on Monday, the club announced that despite the former Inter Milan legend owning a majority of the club, he will take on the role of president of the board of directors with current president Carlos Suarez set to remain in his position.

“Today is a starting point. Ronaldo personally acquires 51 percent of the shares of Real Valladolid.” Valladolid president, Suarez said.

“The arrival of Ronaldo puts Real Valladolid on the map and will allow the club to take a leap in quality,” he added.

During his playing career, Ronaldo won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid and the UEFA Cup with Inter, he scored 62 times in 98 appearances for Brazil, winning the World Cup in 1994 and 2002.

The 42-year-old played for Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Barcelona in an 18-year playing career and picked up the Ballon d’Or award in 1997 and 2002.

“We want to build the best possible team to compete in the league,” the two-time Ballon d’Or winner said while speaking at the conference.

“You can count on us to make sure that Real Valladolid will cement its place in the Liga and will carry on building dreams. With the unity that we have here, I am sure that it will be very hard to beat us.”

Real Valladolid are 16th in La Liga and they will welcome Alaves after the international break to chase their first league win of the season.
