Ronaldo Dismisses Rape Allegation, Says People Seeking To Promote Themselves At His Expense

Cristiano Ronaldo has again “firmly denied” an allegation of rape made by a former model Kathryn Mayorga, who says the Juventus striker raped her in a Las Vegas hotel suite 9 years ago (2009).

Ms. Mayorga who was 24-years-old at that time, claims to have reached an out-of-court settlement with the 33-year-old in 2010 involving a $375,000 (£288,000) payment for agreeing never to go public with the accusations. Her lawyers are now reportedly seeking to declare the non-disclosure agreement void.

US police subsequently reopened an investigation into the case, at the request of Mayorga.

Ronaldo in a statement on Wednesday, on his official twitter handle insists his conscience was clear on the matter and he described rape as an “abominable crime.”

The former Real Madrid star said those behind the allegations against him, were people seeking to promote themselves at his expense.

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” the Portuguese striker said.

“Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

“Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.

“My clear conscious [sic] will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations.”
