Ronaldo May Quit Over Allegri’s Return As Juventus Coach

Five times Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, may quit as Massimiliano Allegri is coming back to head Juventus.

Juventus have concluded an arrangement to relieve Andrea Pirlo of his role at Turin, Sky Sport Italia quote the club’s board.

The Juve ex-midfielder has only served for twelve months in a campaign that ended the club’s dominance of the Serie A since 2012.

Pirlo who replaced Maurizio Sarri narrowly escaped not qualifying for the Champions League, ending fourth place in the Serie A.

But the sack will bring back one of Ronaldo’s biggest critics to head Juve.

Allegri was in talks with Real Madrid to take over from Zinadane Zidane, but dumped the talks in favour of his former team to sign a three-year deal, with a fourth option and a salary around £7.7m yearly.

La Repubblica reported that before parting with Juve in 2018, Allegri had told club president Andrea Agnelli to “Get rid of Ronaldo.”

“He’s blocking the growth of the team,” the incoming coach added.

The Portuguese who joined Juve in 2018 was accused of not contributing enough to the build- up of the team.

Ronaldo has admitted he has streamlined his style due to age.

The 36-year-old has reduced dribbles as he concentrates on goals. He was the fastest to score 100 goals since joining Juve.

On Tuesday, he posted on his Instagram, “I have to value everything we achieved this season at Juventus, both in collective and individual terms.

“The life and career of any top player is made of ups and downs. Year after year, we face fanatics with extraordinary players and ambitious goals.”

“The Italian Super Cup, the Italian Cup and the Serie A Top Scorer trophy fill me with happiness, mainly due to the difficulty they carry with them, in a country where nothing is easy to win.”
