RUGA: Suspension Of Programme Shows Buhari Heard Voices Of Nigerians – Ortom

Following the suspension of Ruga settlements plan by the Federal government, Governor Samuel Ortom has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for heeding to the call of the people.

He said the decision to suspend the Ruga programme shows that the president has heard the voices of majority of Nigerians on the matter.

Ortom described the development as a victory for all peace loving citizens of the country.

Recall that the government a few hours ago suspended its plan to establish pastoral settlements, otherwise known as Ruga settlements for herdsmen across the country.

In a statement dated July 3, 2019 and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Ortom noted that the rejection of the Ruga settlement model was not personal but rather a struggle by the people of the country against impunity and injustice.

The governor further stated that truth has prevailed on the Ruga issue, citing the Bible book of John 8: 32 which says “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”

The Benue governor finally urged the federal government to take a step further to encourage pastoralists and other livestock owners to embrace ranching as the best model of animal husbandry.

The government’s suspension of the Ruga programme is coming after several prominent Nigerians and groups condemned it for various reasons.
