Sadiya, Monguno Head National Humanitarian Coordination Committee

President Muhamadu Buhari on Monday announced the appointment of a National Humanitarian Committee that would oversee all humanitarian actions in Nigeria.

The committee will be co-chaired by the Minister, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

The committee is expected to  provide national vision for humanitarian actions, give advice on coordination between security  services and humanitarian actors and settle disputes that may arise from interactions  between security services and the humanitarian community.

According to a statement posted on Buhari’s twitter handle (@mbuhari), the committee would also propose policies that will  enhance coordination and seamless delivery of humanitarian aid to affected communities, facilitate delivery of  humanitarian interventions to vulnerable persons,and promote transparency and accountability in all aspects of humanitarian delivery in the country.

Other members of the committee include are:  Chairman Governors’ Forum, Minister of Defence, Minister of Interior, Minister of Justice, Minister of State, Budget and Planning, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval staff, Chief of Air Staff, The IG of police, Governors of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states and the Commandant General, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Others are the Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service, United Nations Resident Coordinator, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (secretariat), Chairman Non-Governmental Organization Forum and any persons nominated by the Chairman of the committee

The committee would be inaugurate by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo .
