Samsung To Host Galaxy Unpacked Event

Samsung announced on Monday that it will be hosting a Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event on Sunday, February 2, in Barcelona, Spain.

The mobile giant is expected to unveil its new Galaxy S7 series.

This is coming ahead of Mobile World Congress, which this year takes place in the Catalan capital from Feb. 22 to 25.

Prominent leaker Evleaks said to expect a regular 5.1-inch version of the Galaxy S7 and a curved 5.5-inch S7 edge. Both handsets are expected to retain the look of the Galaxy S6, while adding dust- and water-resistance, a microSD slot, and some nice internal upgrades.

With major emphasis on the Gear VR platform, it suggests that either the new S7 line will work with the existing consumer headsets or, more likely, that the team at Samsung is planning to release an updated Gear VR headset (or both).

This time around we’re expecting to see at least two, and possibly three Galaxy S7 models, including a regular flat S7 and a curvy S7 edge.

There’ve also been rumors that a larger GS7 edge+ may break cover at the same time as its smaller cousins. Either way, it’ll be a crucial launch for Samsung as it attempts to hold onto market share in the face of increasing competition.
