Sanusi Departs Nasarawa With Gov El-Rufai

The deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has reportedly departed Awe, Nasarawa State, where he was confined for days after his dethronement.

Sanusi was said have left Awe alongside Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who had paid him a visit on Friday.

The development came after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted an interim order for Sanusi’s release following an application filed by the former emir’s lawyers.

Meanwhile, Governor El-Rufai had while addressing journalists in Awe before their departure, said Sanusi can now go anywhere, including Kano State, following the court order.

“The high court ruled that he can go anywhere, including Kano, but I think he wants to go to Lagos to reunite with his family,” said the governor.

The former emir’s counsel, led by a Senor Advocate of Nigeria, Lateef Fagbemi, had approached the court to challenge his “forced resettlement” in Awe.

Sanusi was dethroned by the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje led Kano State government for allegedly disregarding lawful instructions of the governor on several occasions.
