Saraki Hits Buhari At PDP NEC Meeting, Says He Presided Over ‘Nollywood APC Meeting’

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has described the national caucus meeting President Muhammadu Buhari held with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday as a “Nollywood meeting.”

At the APC caucus meeting, President Buhari boasted of how he had campaigned across states in the country and gotten the support of Nigerians ahead of the rescheduled February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.

“As you said, I have gone round all the 36 states and Abuja. I think I have gotten enough support across the country,” said the President, adding that those planning to snatch ballot boxes in the elections may pay with their own lives as he had ordered the military and police to deal ruthlessly with anyone caught.

“I’m going to warn anybody who thinks, he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system, he would do it at the expense of his own life,” Mr Buhari had said.

But speaking at the National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Tuesday, Saraki accused the Buhari-led APC of deliberately frustrating efforts of INEC to conduct credible polls.

“INEC, we know that they do not want you to hold that election on Saturday, but we want you to hold that election on Saturday,” he said.

“The Nollywood APC meeting yesterday was because they don’t want elections on Saturday, but we want elections on Saturday, Nigerians want elections on Saturday, the world wants elections on Saturday.

“I want to appeal to Nigerians, their plan is to have low turnout and frustrate you. Please come out again and vote for Atiku that will make the country better. On Saturday, when you come out to vote, vote for Nigeria.”

Speaking further, the Senate President said the opposition PDP has no plans to rig the elections.

“PDP is against election rigging. The law must apply to people that rig. We in the PDP stand against election rigging, we oppose election rigging, but we are also against jungle justice and disregard of the rule of law,” he said.

“When you come out to vote on Saturday, do you want a Nigeria that that adheres to the rule of law, or do you want a Nigeria that is governed by jungle justice.
