Saraki Swears In 2 New APC Senators

Senate President Bukola Saraki has sworn in two new senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as members of the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly.

Senators Lawal Gumau (APC, Bauchi South) and Ahmed Babba-Kaita (APC, Katsina North) were sworn in on the floor of the Red Chamber by the Senate President on Wednesday.

Gumau had emerged winner of the August 11 senatorial election that was held in Bauchi South senatorial district. He had defeated candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladan Salihu, by polling 119,489 votes against the latter who scored 50,256 votes.

On his part, Mr Babba-Kaita defeated his elder brother who happens to be PDP’s candidate in the Katsina North senatorial election by polling 224,607 votes against his brother who got 59,724 votes.
