Mr Abdullahi’s relationship with Saraki dates back to 2003 when he was picked by from Thisday by Saraki to his Special Assistant, Communication and Strategy, and later as the Special Adviser on Policy and Strategy in 2005 when he (Saraki) was governor of the state.

During Saraki’s second tenure as governor, Abdullahi was appointed Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology from 2007 to 2011.

He was nominated by Saraki as a Minister under former President, Goodluck Jonathan and went on to serve as the Minister of Youth Development in July 2011 and later as the Minister of Sports.

Abdullahi was later sacked after his boss, Saraki moved to the PDP in 2014.
