SARS Operatives Rescued Me From Kidnappers Without Ransom – Ohanaeze Chieftain

An octogenarian and chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, says the current protest across some states of the federation against the brutalities of the operatives of the Nigeria Police was a result of the government failure to be proactive, but recalls with nostalgia how he was saved from the hands of kidnappers about three years ago by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

He said the operatives that came to his rescue acted ‘professionally’, and regretted that some ‘bad eggs spoilt the gallant officers of the squad’.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER in Enugu, Monday, Chief Eya said, “A friend of mine in the SARS was doing a good job. He was among those that rescued me from kidnappers. And because he was professional, and his refusal to join the conspiracy, they removed him. I have been calling him, but yet to get him on phone. I want to tell him that God works in a marvelous way. He has been removed from this rubbish. It is God that removed him because he is a good officer.”

On the disbandment of the SARS operatives, Chief Eya, a former commissioner for education in the old Anambra State and former secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said, “Not every SARS person is a bad officer. There are many good ones among them. I was kidnapped about three years ago. It was SARS that rescued me professionally. It was in Enugu. To the best of my knowledge, no ransom was paid. My family didn’t pay a dime. But Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi put a riot act on the security operatives. He told everybody that ‘this is our father’. The then police commissioner in Enugu State, CP Dan Malam Mohammed, now AIG in Anambra, is a fantastic man. It is a pity that bad eggs in the group destroy the good ones. He is unassuming. He discusses with you and argues, and takes the superior argument.”
