Saudi Man Divorces Wife Two Hours After Wedding Over Snapchat Post

A Saudi Arabian man has divorced his wife two hours after their wedding after she posted pictures of their wedding on Snapchat.

The groom broke up with his wife as he learned she broke the agreement not to share pictures of their ceremony by posting it on Snapchat.

The bride’s brother was quoted by a Saudi newspaper saying: “There was a prenuptial agreement between my sister and her fiance that she would not use social-media applications such as Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter to post or send her pictures.

“Regretfully, my sister did not honour the pledge and used Snapchat to share pictures from the wedding ceremony with her female friends, resulting in the shocking decision by the groom to cancel their marriage and call for divorce,” he said.

Despite arguments from the bride’s family, the husband’s family insisted that the man was entitled to call for a divorce.

Under Saudi law, men have the unilateral power to divorce their wives without any legal grounds, however, women need the consent of their husbands or the judiciary before dissolving a marriage and lose custody of their children if they are over a certain age.
