School Reopening: FG To Hold Stakeholders Meeting July 30

The Federal Ministry of Education says it would hold a meeting with stakeholders in the sector, by July 30.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, disclosed this on Thursday, at the Covid-19 Presidential Taskforce briefing, in Abuja.

According to Nwajiuba, stakeholders would have to recovene by the scheduled date to look at progress made so far in implementing the guidelines it issued on July 17.

“We will meet with stakeholders on 30 July, in readiness for reopening,” he said.

He further explained that the guidelines issued(on July 17) regarding schools is for stakeholders to evaluate its readiness.

Recall that the Federal Ministry of Education, had maintained that the framework would get schools set for operation within public health advisory protocols.

“Schools are to undertake self-assessment and send feedback to State ministries of Education, not later than 29th July, 2020,” the ministry had stated.

Regarding various education directives issued by state governors across the federation, Nwajiuba said that he was of the view that governors would work within the framework of the guidelines.

“We believe that all the states should be working together,” he said adding that PTF expected states to look at the guidelines.

However, he stressed that schools would only reopen when safety is guaranteed.
