NEMA’s North-Central Coordinator, Abdulsalam Mohammed, said that the injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals including the Plateau Specialist Hospital.

Meanwhile, it was a black Sunday in Potiskum, Yobe State when a suicide bomber attacked a church, killing 6 people.

The blast reportedly occurred at a local branch of The Redeemed Christian Church of God along Bauchi road in Potiskum Town, Yobe State.

The bomber entered the church during service and blew himself up just as worshippers were trooping in.

The pastor of the church, a woman and her two children were among those killed in the attack.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Toyin Gbadegesin, said “A male suicide bomber at about 10 o’clock detonated a bomb at Redeemed Church, in the Jigawa area of Potiskum, killing five persons including the suicide bomber.”

A Red Cross official, Hassan Alhaji Muhammad also said “People were just going to the church when the bomber entered, otherwise the casualty figure would have been higher.”

Also, gunmen struck Cigama village of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Saturday, killing over 70 people while several others sustained injuries.

This happened barely 24 hours after gunmen killed six people at Kokiya village, also in Zamfara State.

No one has claimed responsibility for these attacks but militant group Boko Haram are said to be the prime suspects of these insurgencies.
President Muhammadu Buhari has however expressed sadness over the reported bomb attacks.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

“Nigerians are a very religious people and President Buhari believes that the terrorists who wantonly attack our places of worship have willfully declared war on all that we value, and must, therefore, be confronted with all our might and collective resolve,’’ the statement said.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to doing everything possible to eradicate the Boko Haram sect. He assured Nigerians that terrorism will ultimately be defeated and full security restored in all parts of the country.
