Senate ‘Boring’ Without Dino Melaye – Senator

The upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly is ‘uninteresting’ without the charisma of its embattled member, Senator Dino Melaye.

This was according to Mr Ben Murray-Bruce, the Senator representing Bayelsa East in the Senate, who urged Senator Melaye of Kogi West Senatorial District to resume plenary even if it means resuming at the Red Chamber on his crutches.

“I want Dino Melaye to come to the Senate on Wednesday even if he is on crutches. The Senate is not the same without Dino! We miss him. I know he is on crutches but I want him to come on Wednesday and I will stand with him,” Senator Murray-Bruce tweeted on Monday.

Senator Melaye had found himself in a sticky situation after reports emerged from Kogi State that some suspected political thugs in police custody named him as their financier.

The thugs, according to the Police Command in Lokoja, had equally accused the lawmaker of arming them with guns ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Ever since then, Senator Melaye has been in and out of the courts battling the police over the criminal charges levelled against him.

One of the many attempts by the police to forcefully take him to Lokoja, Kogi State, to answer to the criminal charges had landed him in a hospital after he was said to have allegedly jumped out of the window of a moving police vehicle in Abuja.

After being granted bail by a Magistrates Court in Abuja, the police arrested Senator Melaye on the premises of the court and conveyed him to Lokoja, Kogi State, where he later faced trial.

The federal maker was later granted bail by a Federal High Court in the state after being previously remanded in prison by the same court.
