The nominees were screened by the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Financial Institutions which submitted its report on the nominees to the upper legislative chamber today.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Rafiu Adebayo, urged the Red Chamber to “receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions on screening for confirmation of the following persons as non-executive directors of the Board of Central Bank of Nigeria.”

Speaking on Abubakar’s rejection, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, urged the committee to review the pending petition against the nominee who is said to be from the North West region of the country.

“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, I want to say that the committee should go back and review the petition which I think is in line with our laws,” said Ekweremadu.
