Senate Confirms Olukoyede As EFCC Secretary

The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment of Olanikekun Olukoyede, Esq as the secretary of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

A statement on the red chambers official twitter handle said the confirmation was made possible by the report of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes presented by Senator Chukwuka Utazi.

The statement read, “The appointment of Olanikekun Olukoyede, Esq is Confirmed as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Senate dissolves into the Committee of the Whole for the clause by clause consideration of the Report of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes on the Confirmation of Olanikekun Olukoyede, Esq for Appointment as the Secretary of the EFCC.”

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had, in an executive communication, dated Sept. 10, forwarded the name of the nominee, who hails from Ekiti State, for confirmation.

The request was made in compliance with the provisions of Section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes (Establishment) Act 2010.

Olukoyede is a trained lawyer and currently the Chief of Staff to the Acting EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
