Despite its inability to form a quorum, the Senate on Wednesday breached its law and convened plenary.
The standing rule, section 54(1), says the senate must have one-third of the 109 members (that is 37 members) for it to convene a sitting.
The plenary today commenced with only 17 members present, as the Senate went ahead despite low attendance of its colleagues.

Despite opposition by an unidentified senator who reportedly noted that they were yet to reach the required number, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki went ahead and asked that the Senate leader read out the activities for the day on the order paper.
