A senior North Korea diplomat has been named as a suspect in the killing of Kim Jong-nam.

Jong-Nam died on February 13 after being attacked as he waited for a plane to Macau at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Leaked CCTV footage from the airport shows the 45-year-old being approached by two women, one of whom grabs him from behind and appears to shove a cloth in his face.

Malaysian police said he suffered a seizure and died before he go to the hospital, as a result of the effects of a toxin.

Malaysian Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar said they want to question three North Koreans in connection with Kim’s death, half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

One of them is Hyon Kwang Song, 44, the second secretary of the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The others are Kim Uk II, 37, who works for Air Koryo, and another North Korean Ri Ju U.

Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur earlier on Wednesday, Abu Bakar said: “We have written to the ambassador to allow us to interview both of them. We hope that the Korean embassy will cooperate with us and allow us to interview them quickly. If not, we will compel them to come to us.”

In a swift reaction, North Korea’s embassy in Malaysia denied the claims, saying that the fact that the substance was on the hands of the women proved it could not have been a poison while they urged the Malaysian police to immediate release of the “innocent females”
