September 3 Primaries: APC Promises Level-Playing Field For Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said it had no anointed aspirants for the September 3 primary elections.

The party’s primaries are in preparation for the October 31st concurrent legislative by-elections across the Federation.

The party said the clarification followed the allegation by one of its chieftains, Okoi Obono-Obla, that the party was attempting to “foist” a pre-determined candidate in the forthcoming Cross River North Senatorial District by-election.

Spokesman of APC, Yekini Nabena, said under the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee, the party was already moving in a new and progressive direction where things were done properly and internal democracy was the norm.

Nabena said: “The party will continue to give all aspirants a level playing field while also ensuring that only those with impeccable records and are popularly elected are presented as APC candidates in all elections.”

The party had earlier disclosed that it cleared a total of 45 aspirants from eight (8) states to contest the party’s primary elections.
