A former lecturer with the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Richard Akindele, was on Tuesday, caught reciting incantation in a Federal High Court in Osogbo.

Akindele, who is said to be a pastor, was dragged before the court for allegedly demanding sex from one of his students, Monica Osagie, to upgrade her scores to a pass mark.

Akindele, through his lawyer, Francis Omotoso, had filed for a bail application but the prosecuting counsel for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Kehinde Ayantoye, opposed the application.

According to the prosecutor, Akindele might not attend trial as he refused to report to the ICPC office in Abuja after he was granted an administrative bail to travel to America to attend to his health.

The prosecutor, in the counter-affidavit, also alleged that Akindele was caught on tape chanting incantations to derail the case.

In her ruling, Justice Maureen Onyetenu directed the prosecutor to produce the tape in which Akindele was caught chanting incantations.

She thereafter adjourned the case till December 17, 2018 and ordered that Akindele remain in prison.
