Shehu Sani Denies Dumping APC, ‘I’m Still Consulting’

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district in the National Assembly, has denied defecting from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sani, in a statement on Friday, dismissed earlier reports that he had left the APC, but said he was still contemplating whether or not to defect from the ruling party.

“Clarification; I’m yet to leave the Broomcity FC for the Umbrella united or any other club on the Premier league. Discussion and consultations are ongoing,” he wrote on Facebook.

“If such will happen, it will be backed by a signed formal letter to the club management; And a formal announcement on the side of the pitch by myself. Thank you.”

Tom Maiyashi, chairman of the Akida faction and Ja’afaru Abas Ibrahim, legal adviser of the Restoration Group, announced the decision of the two groups to leave the APC at a joint press conference on Friday in Kaduna.

The prominent members of the two groups include Senators Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Centra) and Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC Kaduna North), Tijjani Ramalan, owner of Liberty Radio and Television stations, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed among others.

He said they left because the APC was not ready to accommodate alternative opinions or allow democracy to take its course in the conduct of party affairs.

The two senators have been engaged in a prolonged rivalry with Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna State governor.
