Sheikh Gumi Visits UK High Commissioner Laing

On Thursday, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi and his team were said to have visited the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing at her official residence in Abuja.

The purpose of the visit is not immediately clear but one of the people in the Sheikh’s entourage told THE WHISTLER that it was “in continuation of his efforts to reach out to critical stakeholders to understand the enormity of the security crisis particularly in the North West…”

Recall that Gumi has been meeting with bandits while urging government to look into their concerns.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the cleric had advised the federal Government against military solution to herdsmen’s violence across the country.

In a recent interview with this website, the cleric called on the federal government to grant amnesty to bandits willing to repent and rehabilitate them in order to end insecurity in the country.

But President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration said it would not negotiate with terrorists and had vowed to deal with bandits terrorizing northern Nigeria.
