Shettima Nominates Ex-Commissioner As New Deputy Governor

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has nominated the immediate past commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Youths Empowerment, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa, for the position of deputy governor of the state.

This was disclosed in a letter read by the spokesman to the Governor, Malam Isa Gusau on Monday, October 5, 2015.

The letter, addressed to the speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly sought the confirmation of the Assembly for Durkwa.

The letter read, “I wish to reassure the Honourable House of the continuous cooperation of the Executive arm and solicit for confirmation of the nominee, please.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.”

The governor further noted he was looking forward to “the Assembly’s accelerated consideration and kind approval”.

It was noted that Shettima acted in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 191 Sub-Section (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).

The nomination follows the death of Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, who passed away in his sleep, on Saturday, 15th of August, 2015 in Yola, capi‎tal of Adamawa while he was on official assignment.
