Shiites Protest Detention Of El-Zaky Zaky Again, Call Buhari A Muslim Fundamentalist

Followers of Ibrahim El-Zaky Zaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, have again taken to the streets in Abuja, the nation’s Federal Capital to protest the continuing detention of their leader.

Scores of his followers, mostly young boys and ladies, embarked on a peaceful demonstration to the National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday morning to demand release of El-Zaky Zaky who has been in the custody of the Department of State Security Services, DSS since December 14, 2015.

The protesters carried placards with different messages such as: “Release El-Zaky Zaky and his wife Zeena,” Sheikh El-Zaky Zaky is innocent,” and others.

One of the leaders of the protest, Abdullahi Muhammad who spoke to THE WHISTLER, said El-Zaky Zaky and his followers are not violent, asking why the Government continued to keep him in detention in violation of court orders which cleared him of any crime.

He said: “The killers are the All Progressive Congress Government of Muhammadu Buhari who have been killing our members for exercising their rights to religious freedom,

“Shiites do not believe in violence, our leader Sheikh El-Zaky Zaky does not believe in violence because he thought us to be tolerant of others. Those that are intolerant are the people killing Shiites because they don’t believe in the Shiite ideology,

“President Buhari is a fanatic, a religious fanatic because he is working for the leadership of Saudi Arabia who belong to a different sect. The Saudis are fighting Shiites in Yemen and other countries, including Nigeria. But they are not fighting Shiites in Saudi Arabia because they know it is not in the economic interest of their country. But Buhari does not care about the country.”

Mohammad urged Nigerians to reject Buhari and APC at the polls, stressing that the Shiites would vote against Buhari in 2019.

On the reasons why the Buhari administration was still holding El-Zaky Zaky, Abdullahi who claimed to have been converted since 2007, revealed that the IMN leader is feared because he has been speaking strongly against tyranny and blood-letting.

“He has been a strong critic of government tyranny and religious intolerance in Nigeria, and they know that they cannot cow him,” adding that his followers will continue to protest his detention until he’s released.

Followers of El-Zaky have embarked on regular protests in the FCT against his detention and have asked for his release. Some of the protests have led to deadly clashes with security operatives, who had reportedly used live bullets to disperse the protesters.

On October 28, thousands of members of the IMN stormed the Kubwa Expressway in the FCT to demand the release of El-Zak zaky, and to protest the killing of Shiites by the Nigerian Army.

The Shiites blocked the Dutse and Galadima ends of the expressway, obstructing traffic for about two hours as they chanted solidarity songs and carried flags containing a deceased member and El-Zakzaky.
