The inability of power distribution firms to effectively deploy electricity Transformers had in recent times been a major cause of concerns to electricity consumers.

Several initiatives adopted in the past to tackle the challenges have not been too successful.

In 2018 President Muhammadu Buhari and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, met on how to rescue Nigeria’s power sector.

Following the meeting the Federal Government and Siemens signed a Letter of Agreement on the Nigeria Electrification Road Map in 2019.

In order to execute the project, the Federal Executive Council approved the payment of €15.21m (N6,940,081,465.20) offshore and N1.708bn onshore as part of Nigeria’s counterpart funding for the power deal with Siemens AG.
