It was gathered that the burning was carried out by some youths who were enforcing the sit-at-home order declared in the entire southeast states to mark the arraignment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the IPOB, in a federal high court, Abuja, Thursday.

THE WHISTLER reported that the case had been adjourned to November 10 for continuation.

The trailer was headed towards Abakalili, Ebonyi State capital, when it was attacked by the enforcers. The driver was said to be unhurt.

In another development, a provision shop at the same Eke Obinagu was burnt to ashes by yet-to-identified miscreants in the early hours of Thursday.

The state police public relations officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, did not reply to a request for reaction sent to him by our correspondent.

Meanwhile, business activities were grounded to a halt in Enugu metropolis and its environs following the order. Filling stations, markets, schools, banks, pubs and transport companies were not operational in the state as at the time of filing of this report.

However, residents of some parts of Nsukka used the sit-at-home order to clean up their streets.

At Ikpa road, the occupants were seen clearing their blocked gutters to enhance water drainage.

One of them, Mrs Ifeyinwa Okoro, said, “Today is solidarity for Nnamdi Kanu, so it is expected to be non-violent. That is why we decided to use it to keep our environment clean.

“We don’t want to wait till the last Saturday of the month to do this. This sit-at-home afforded us this opportunity.”
