Six Nigerian Wrestlers Through To Rio Olympics

The event, which held at the Mohamed Boudiar Olympic Complex in Algiers, featured over 200 wrestlers from Africa and the Oceania.

Nigeria claimed six out of the 36 slots available, to include four female wrestlers and two male freestyle wrestlers.

The female wrestlers include, All-African Games champion, Mercy Genesis (48kg), Aminat Adeniyi, (58kg), Blessing Oborududu (63kg) and Hannah Reuben (69Kg).

Hannah Reuben was able to pull out a final tournament victory with an 8-2 win over Enas Ahmed of Egypt to clinch gold.

Aminat Adeniyi and Blessing Oborududu both won silver medals to qualify for this year’s Olympics.

In the male freestyle category, Africa champion, Daniel Amas (65K) maintained his form by defeating Australian Sahit Prizreni. Amas will be joined in Rio by Soso Tamara who also picked a ticket to the quadrennial games.
