Nigerian music has certainly evolved over the years. There are evergreen songs that automatically lights one’s mood.

1. Daddy Showkey – ‘Dyna’

This song grew quickly amongst all age groups, so much it became an anthem on the streets. It was arguably Daddy Showkey’s biggest song.

2. Femi Kuti – Bang Bang Bang

This is an ‘old’ song, released in 1998. It was one of the best singles in Nigeria. But playing today, it still seemed fresh as new.

3. Ras Kimono – ‘Rhumba stylee’

This single from the late reggae artiste Ras Kimono was a classic dancehall joint amongst other popular songs by the singer.

4. The Remedies – ‘Shakomo’

This song was particularly among the children and teens growing up. The group comprised Tony Tetuila, Eedris Abdulkareem and Eddy Montana

5. Blackie – Rosie

Many wouldn’t forget in a hurry the song’s chorus, “Can I have a dance, Rosie? Ah ah! My friends are watching me, Rosie ah ah ah. They will laugh-laugh at me, Rosie,” which caught on in no time and won many awards.

6. Onyeka Onwenu – One Love

One love by veteran music star Onyeka Onwenu is the one almost impossible to ignore or go unnoticed.
