Slaughtering Sick Cows For Consumption Dangerous To Health, Maigoro Warns

Abdulrahman Maigoro, the Chairman of Keffi Local Government in Nasarawa State, has cautioned meat sellers in the area against the slaughtering of sick cows for consumption.

Maigoro gave the advice when he paid an unscheduled visit to Kara Cattle Market in Keffi on Monday.

He said that the visit was to inform them of the negative health implications of slaughtering sick animals for consumption and officially introduce Uba Labour to them as the council’s consultant to the market.

He said the council would tackle any challenge facing the market because of the market’s importance to the its revenue generation drive.

“I want to use this medium to appeal to members of this market to always sell healthy meat for human consumption.

“If you sell healthy cattle, this will go a long way in improving the living standard of the people,” he said.

Maigoro also urged the butchers to always keep their abattoir clean in the interest of the health of their customers.

He reminded them that a clean environment would always attract more customers and ensure their safety.

The chairman restated his determination to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the area so as to boost the council’s socio-economic activities.
