Soleimani Assassination: Iran ‘Assessing 13 Retaliation Scenarios’ Against U.S – Foreign Minister

Iran has said it is assessing 13 scenarios to respond to the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the general in charge of the country’s foreign operations, by United States forces.

The Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said this on Tuesday at the funeral procession of Soleimani in Tehran, as the countdown has begun for the U.S. to exit the Middle East.

He warned on the impending danger of relying on America’s presence, stating that it will lead to a war that would last for generations.

Zaif said on the Iran options: “Even if the weakest of these scenarios gains a consensus, the implementation of it can be a historic nightmare for the Americans.”

Ali Shamkhani, head of Iran’s national security council, was cited by the semi-official Fars news agency as saying, “For now, for intelligence reasons, we cannot provide more information to the media.”

Meanwhile, Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger reported that Zarif will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos from January 21 to 24.

The report added Zarif was denied a visa to travel to New York for meetings at the United Nations, as they quoted an insider who told them Monday evening.
