South Africa Defeat Cape Verde To Set Up Super Eagles Clash

South Africa defeated Cape Verde on penalties to book a semi-final clash with the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The regulation time and extra time ended 0-0 but South Africa confirmed their place in the last four thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, who saved four penalties in the shootout.

He was the star of the show, producing series of saves in the regular time including a wonder save from Gilson Benchimol’s effort.

The South Africa captain saved the efforts of Bebe, Willy Semedo, Laros Duarte and Patrick Andrade to lead his country to a 2-1 win in the shootout against Cape Verde.

Hugo Bross’ men have also kept four clean sheets in the competition just like the Super Eagles, they are yet to concede since losing 2-0 Mali in their first group match.

Cape Verde goalkeeper, Vozinha made two exceptional saves in the extra-time to keep his country in the game.

The Bafana Bafana kept their nerves and with special thanks to Williams for saving there penalties to send them to the last four of the competition.

South Africa will take on Nigeria on Wednesday in the semi-finals, while Ivory Coast will battle it out with DR Congo in the other semi finals clash later in the day.
