Spend $322m Abacha Loot On Project Nigerians Can See With ‘Their Korokoro Eyes’ – APC Senator

A federal lawmaker of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to tie the $350 million Abacha loot it intends to share to “extremely poor” Nigerians to a project every citizen can see “with their korokoro eyes”.

Recall that the government had announced recently its plans to share the sum which was recently recovered from the Swiss Government to the poor citizens of the country through its conditional cash transfer scheme.

The recovered $322 million was part of the money stolen by Nigeria’s late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, and stashed away in Switzerland for decades.

The Nigerian government plans to share the recovered loot to the said poor citizens beginning from July, 2818.

But reacting to the move, Senator Sani, who represents Kaduna Central District, said: “Sharing $350 million recovered loot to 180 million Nigerians is impossible. It will end up with beneficiaries whose names will be given by Governors,Ministers,Lawmakers and the President’s men.Let it be tied to a project Nigerians can see with their ‘Korokoro eyes’.”

Meanwhile, there have been arguments by Nigerians on social media who have raised concerns that the government’s supposed plan to share the Abacha loot is a plot by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to divert the money 2019 election.
