Stop Blaming Buhari For Killings, Says Son-In-Law Ahmed Indimi

Ahmed Indimi, the son of billionaire oil tycoon, Mohammed Indimi, has said his father-in-law President Muhammadu Buhari “did not cause” and has “nothing to do with” the incessant killings in the country by marauding Fulani herdsmen.

Indimi, who is the husband to Zahra Buhari, said this while responding to a Nigerian lady who criticised him for sharing what appeared like a vacation picture on social media at a time that the country is grieving from the killing of over 135 people in Plateau State by suspected herdsmen.

Mr Indimi’s caption on the vacation picture read: “Goodness lord, is this heaven?”

But the Nigerian lady with the Instagram handle @toniaero (Tonia Onumah) slammed the president’s son-in-law for being “busy comparing heaven and earth” on social media at a point that the country was boiling from series of killings and sad events.

Ms Onumah had commented on Indimi’s post that rather than mourn with the country over the Plateau incident and the event on Thursday where over 54 cars and 9 lives were lost after a petrol tanker exploded on Otedola Bridge in Lagos State, but that Mr Indimi would rather share photos on Instagram exposing his alleged lack of sympathy for the “wickedness and injustice going on” in the country.

The lady also told the president’s son-in-law that: “Have you seen [that] your father-in-law is nothing but darkness to this nation”.

Ms Onumah said, “You are busy comparing heaven and earth Mr Ndimi! Are you aware of the fire incident that happened in Lagos that has miserably taken the lives of people ?? Are you not aware of the killing of innocent citizens of Plateau state and many others ? ?. Have you seen your father-in-law in nothing but a darkness to this nation?? People are dying on daily basis, yet nothing is being done about it. Can’t you use your platform to speak out against wickedness and injustice going on in Nigeria?! There’s God!”

But responding, the president’s son-in-law said: “What happened in Plateau is quite unfortunate, I agree with you. May the soul of the departed rest in perfect peace.

“I believe the Government is doing what they are doing to stop this from happening again and I am sure you will say it should have never happened in the first place. It happens everywhere, there was a shooting in Maryland today and there other bad things happening around the world that are not preventable. I did not know about the fire in Lagos by the time I posted my picture, that’s why I was busy comparing earth and heaven’’ he said.

Defending President Buhari, Mr Indimi said: “No my father in law did not cause it and he had nothing to do with it. Now that I am aware of the incident in Lagos, what could I have done to prevent it? I am not part of this Government and I have never been and will never be. Take your problems elsewhere, I am a private citizen just like you. I have never responded to anyone’s tweet, be rest assured this is the first and last time I will. I am quick to delete and block. Have a good day @toniaero”

Contributing to the argument between the president’s son-in-law and the Nigerian lady, another Instagram user with the handle @_royfc said:

“You must be crazy for asking is this heaven, no it bakery. Na your ‘yeye’ father in law failure caused all this shit, after his fucking promise. Now your in-law regime is the most worsen one (sic) so far…. tell Him to pack is load and move, he is bad luck to Nigeria.”

Another user (@haaffyy) who spoke in defence of the president’s son-in-law wrote: “Madam, whether he is aware or not about the fire incident, what could he have done to stop it, what could even the government u are blaming done, tanker exploding is not the government’s fault, @ahmed.indimi only fault now is because he married the president’s daughter, let’s be reasonable, people have become so harsh, brutal on social media. So many hateful comments, I guess even your personal problem u will blame the government.”

Another user @bianks22 said:

“Nigerians are sad and angry about the series of dark events in the country and it is only normal for them to attack a post not relating to the incidents because of an obvious reason so get of your high horse and be reasonable. I’m not asking u to make a post or protest all I’m saying is understand the pain of the angry people, they probably lost a relative and if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything. Is this fair? Hell no. Life isn’t fair and yes it is a beautiful view. RIP to the dead. Feel free to block”
