2017 WAFU Cup Of Nations: Nigeria Win Sierra Leone 2-0

The Super Eagles home based team advanced to the group stage of the Ghana 2017 WAFU Cup when they defeated Sierra Leone by 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Monday.

The coach Salisu Yusuf boys labored in the match as they had to wait till the final seven minutes of stoppage time before the Eagles side recorded a deserved win over their foes.

Enugu Rangers Midfielder Osas Okoro crashed home an 84th minute free-kick to break the resistance of their West African rivals, before Plateau United Forward Peter Eneji sealed a hard-fought victory with a minute left on the clock to leave the Sierra Leoneans devastated.

Goalkeeper Ezenwa Ikechukwu was certainly at his best for Nigeria between the sticks with yet another close range save to deny Nathaniel Tongo Vula in the 15th minute when he broke behind the defense. His fantastic performance earned him an award as he was named man-of the match.

Results from other matches played at the ongoing West African Football Union Cup of Nations first round in Ghana on Monday; Cape Coast Niger Vs Burkina Faso ended 2-1, Guinea beat Guinea Bissau 2-1 while, Mali defeated Mauritania by 3-1.

The Eagles play hosts Ghana on Thursday in Group A, which also has Mali and Guinea.
