2018 Budget To Be Passed May 16 – Senate

The Senate said on Thursday that the 2018 Appropriation Bill will be passed on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Senate spokesman, made this known while addressing a press conference, shortly after today’s plenary.

The development comes about six months after President Muhammadu Buhari presented the 2018 Budget before a joint session of the National Assembly.

“It was supposed to be laid this week, but they are putting finishing touches. They are being careful so as not to make mistakes. The report would be laid Tuesday and by Wednesday, we will approve it,” Abdullahi said.

“The good next thing is that it is the harmonised version (that would be laid). So whatever is laid in the senate would be laid in the house of representatives, and it would be considered and passed same time.”

The House of Representatives had earlier fixed May 8 for the budget passage.

While presenting the N8.6 trillion budget last November, President Buhari had pleaded with the lawmakers that he would like the country to move to a January-December budget calendar.
