A Prayer For Osinbajo

As the Chinese will say, we live in interesting times. The times in Nigeria are not simply interesting, but they are foreboding. Everywhere you turn, one is confronted by the very ominous signs of how the lives of Nigerians have been upended by the All Progressives Congress led by President Muhammadu Buhari assisted by Pastor Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Forgive the seeming unwieldy title of our beloved Osinbajo!

Owing to the fact that the vice president professes the Christian faith as I do, it has become expedient that I follow Biblical injunction and pray for him. The reason for singling him out is because he understands the precepts and article of faith of Christianity. After all, Apostle Timothy enjoins Christians in his first book, I Timothy 2:1-2 to pray for kings and those in authority. “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness,” he writes.

It is common for us to make invocations for our families, friends, associates and acquaintances, but it is more important to note that if we must live in peace, prosperity and have quiet lives, then, praying for kings and people like our own Osinbajo, that are in authority is even more expedient.

Also, knowing that judgment will start from the House of God, (I Peter 4:7) of which Osinbajo is first among equals, we should play our part that God’s mercy will abound.

Now let us pray!

“Oh God, let Osinbajo be like the prophet Jeremiah and weep for his people that are being slained like fleas by the heathens called herdsmen. Lord, peradventure he has become corrupted by political influences and has forgotten thy word, Lord, direct him to the Book of Jeremiah 9:1.

“Lord, Your word says in that chapter and verse: “Oh, that my head were a spring of water/and my eyes a fountain of tears!/I would weep day and night/for the slain of my people.”

“Lord, the man that was called by you not deemed it fit to wail for the slain of Your people. Even when your priests and people were slayed in Your house, Your servant Osinbajo was more concerned with what former President Jonathan did or did not do.

“Father, it seems that Your servant Osinbajo has been carried away by the lucre of his office that injustice no longer matters to him though he be a minister in the temple of justice. As the Sovereign Lord and Master of all, Father remind him of what Your word says in Psalm 37: 28 that “the LORD loves justice And does not forsake His godly ones;…Yes Lord, also open his eyes now fixed on how he can retain his vice presidential throne that “But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.”

“Father, we Your children are weary and frightened that Osinbajo, a minister of Your gospel has become ‘disobedient and rebelled against you; and has turned his back on your law, if not Lord, how can they kill Your prophets, commit awful blasphemies, yet all he sees is money and not the desecration of Your church?.

“Lord, we are on bended knees for the salvation of the soul of our beloved Osinbajo, after all, You have commended that we pray for our leaders.

“Father Lord, as we conclude this prayer, let Your word in Matthew 21:43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit,” come into his ears and be etched in his heart so that he will repent of hypocrisy, shortsightedness and do what is godly so that the kingdom will not be taken from him and others. In Jesus Christ Name we pray. Amen.”
