AC Milan Sack Montella, Name Gattuso New Manager

Italian football giant AC Milan have confirmed the sack of head coach Vincenzo Montella on Monday after the big-spending club’s poor performance this season.

Milan are currently seventh in Serie A following a 0-0 draw with Torino on Sunday, and are 18 points behind league leaders Napoli.

The Rossoneri have won just six of their 14 games in the 2017/18 season, and have fallen to defeats to the likes of Roma, Juventus and city rivals Inter Milan.

“AC Milan announce to have parted ways with Coach Vincenzo Montella. We are very grateful to Mr. Montella and his staff for all the work done up to today, their commitment and professionalism.” The club on its official website said.

The Italian club also announced former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso to the replace the 43-year-old Montella, who was appointed in June 2016.

39-year-old Gattuso until his appointment as the new manager was the club’s Primavera coach who played for Milan between 1999 and 2013, winning the Serie A title, UEFA Super Cups and the Champions League twice. He was known as one of Italy’s toughest players.

Gattuso also won the World Cup with Italy, and was inducted into the Milan Hall of Fame in 2009.

AC Milan, who have won the Italian title 18 times and are seven-time European champions, have not finished in the top three in Serie A since 2013, despite haven spent £205m on new signings since Chinese businessman Li Yonghong took control in April last year.
