AEDC Clears The Air On Fashola’s Power Generation, Carrying Capacity Claims

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has denied locking horns with Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola over issues of power generation and allocation.

A newspaper report had purported the AEDC as tackling Fahola’s claim that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) no longer have “enough carrying capacity” to accommodate generated power.

Th publications in ‘SweetCrude’ had claimed that the AEDC, through its Head of Public Relations & Media, Ahmed Shekarau, joined issues with the Power Minister.

The company has; however, denied granting audience to the news platform, adding that it never at any point refuted the “minister’s claim of inadequate carrying capacity,” neither does the company reject power allocated to it.

The AEDC said, “For the avoidance of doubt, our Head of Public Relations and Media, who spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP in response to allegations that AEDC was rejecting load allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), stated emphatically that our Company does not reject electricity allocated to it, and explained further that even with its official quota of 11.5% of electricity allocated to it for distribution nationwide, the AEDC at no time received up to 600MW of power from the grid between June and July, 2017.

“It is therefore unacceptable that you attribute to our Company and to our official any statement(s) which did not emanate from us.

“We, therefore, demand for an immediate retraction of your report to correct the negative impression that it has created,” said the distribution company.
