African Nations Championship: Nigeria D’Tigers Through To The Quarter-Finals

Nigeria national male basketball team, D’Tigers, overpowered Mozambique in a thrilling 83-47 score line to book their place in the quarterfinals at the 2015 African Nations Championship in Tunisia where they will face Gabon Today August 27, 2015.

The match which was dominated by the Nigerians from beginning to end, with an 11th straight quarterfinal berth proved why they are the third ranked team in Africa after Angola and Tunisia.

In the match, Al-Farouq Aminu led scoring on the Nigeria side hitting 14 points. Matos of Mozambique also shot 14 points. Lawal grabbed 12 rebounds for Nigeria as the best board player of the night in the combined roster while Umeh had 4 assists.

D’Tigers won all the quarters, winning the first 29-11, the second which was not a high scoring quarter ended 12-8, and the third quarter was won at 20-12 before D’Tigers rounded off their dominant display with a 22-11 in the fourth quarter.

D’Tigers will now play Gabon in the quarter-finals on Thursday. The winner will then face either Senegal or Algeria in the semifinal on Saturday.

The winner of this tournament qualifies automatically for the 2016 Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament while the second, third and fourth placed teams will have to earn their spots through the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
