Chief Olu Falae, National Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Chieftain of the Yoruba Socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has once again escaped an assassination attempt on his life.
Chief Falae’s private car was on Tuesday, shot by unknown gunmen at Ile-Oluji junction on his way to Ile-Ife.
He was en-route Ile-Ife to join other Afenifere leaders on a courtesy visit to Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
Recall that Falae, who was a former Secretary General of Federation (SGF), was recently kidnapped from his farm, by suspected herdsmen, in Ondo State before he was rescued by the security agents.
On arrival to Ile-Ife, Falae, who narrated the incident said that he was shot by one of the security operatives attached to bullion van heading towards Akure.
The elder statesman expressed shock over the shooting at his car by the police, saying “sometime ago I was kidnapped, now they want to kill me.
“I was coming from Akure approaching Ilesa when I saw some vehicles ahead of me. There was a bullion van in front. The vehicles ahead of us were overtaking the bullion van and we too followed.
“I nearly passed them when I heard a shot and I heard a bang on my car. We stopped and we saw that they have fired at our car.
“They didn’t stop. We stopped at Erin-Ijesa and complained to the police at the check-point that we were fired at by some police following a bullion van at Ile-Oluji junction.
Chief Falae who expressed fear over continuous attack on him said, “I don’t know why I was kidnapped recently, why I was arrested in 1997 and locked up for two years.”
