Suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal has again shunned the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on humanitarian crises in the North East.

Mr. Lawal was scheduled for a public hearing by 10:00 am Thursday at the National Assembly, following an invitation by the Shehu Sani-led committee.

He however kept all the members waiting for hours without showing up and failed to tender a prior notice for his absence.

Reacting to the development, Senator Shehu Sani said the committee is not satisfied with Lawal’s unruly attitude, adding that the hearing was an opportunity for the suspended SGF to clear himself on the allegations levelled against him.

“The suspended SGF had the opportunity to clear some issues in a public hearing like this which was fixed at his own request. Unfortunately, he refused to come after waiting for him for two hours.

“The letter of invitation was taken to SGF’s but we could not see him, the messenger took it to his residence, but was turned back by his security personnel,” Sani revealed.

Sani noted that the Committee would go ahead to submit report to the red Chambers for further debates.

The suspended SGF is facing charges over the alleged violations of due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

He is currently being investigated by a three-man committee, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
