Ajaokuta Concession: Reps Reply Fayemi, ‘Go Ahead If You Think You Can Do Without Us’

The House of Representatives has told Kayode Fayemi, Minister of Mines And Steel Development, to go ahead with the concession of Ajaokuta Steel Plant “if he thinks he can do without the parliament”.

Recall that Fayemi had on Thursday said there is no going back on the concession of the steel plant, despite stiff opposition from the lawmakers.

The minister also said the Federal Government would not spend any money to complete the steel complex in Kogi State.

He further accused the House of Representatives of an unwarranted attack on his ministry, noting that it was the same lawmakers that approved the sum of N2 billion in the 2017 Budget for the concession of the company.

But speaking in an interview with online newspaper, the Cable, on Friday, Abdulrazak Namdas, spokesman of the house, said the minister can go ahead and do whatever he likes.

He said the vote of no confidence passed against Fayemi and the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Abubakar Bwari, stands.

“He (Fayemi) can go ahead with whatever he thinks he can do without the parliament,” Namdas said.

“If he wishes, whatever he thinks he can do without the parliament, he can go ahead and do what he wants.”

He said Fayemi denied Nigerians vital information on all they need to know about the steel plant.

“We are not here to indict anyone. We invited him and all the necessary parties to confirm the information at our disposal, to see where we can move from.

“But since he failed to come, as far as we are concerned, we are taking the statement from the experts that it is 98 percent completed,” the lawmaker said,
